Futuristic New Odyssey Minivan to be Shown at Chicago Auto Show; May be the “Cool” Minivan Miami Has Been Waiting For

During the latter half of last year, Honda amazed auto lovers everywhere when it showed off its newest concept vehicle at auto shows worldwide-the Honda Skydeck concept minivan- which was a futuristic, (and aside from the scissored front doors and all-glass roof) yet highly feasible vision of the near future’s minivan. Many auto pundits speculated that while some elements of the Skydeck would never see a production line, Honda’s auto designers would probably draw a lot of inspiration for the next-generation Odyssey minivan from Skydeck, especially since Odyssey is overdue for a design overhaul, since it hasn’t changed much looks-wise since the ’05 model.

Fast-forward to the present-day- Honda has just announced that it will be revealing a new concept Odyssey minivan at February’s Chicago Auto Show. While Honda prefers to keep auto lovers speculating during the buildup to an unveiling, we (and about everyone else who has written on this subject) believe the Skydeck concept was a huge indication of what to expect from the forthcoming Odyssey concept. However, only time will tell the truth, and we’ll have more information for you on the new Odyssey concept sometime between February 12 and 21 (the dates of the autoshow), so stay tuned.

For pictures of the Honda Skydeck, see below, or read our articles on the unveiling of Skydeck here.

Bad idea is all I can say. Did not one person designing that vehicle think about height limitations of every parking garage known to man? One kid gets out the back and takes off while mommy is still trying to figure out how to get the door up far enough to get out and Houston, we got a BIG problem. This is a FAIL in practicality in my book.

True- but please do remember that the pictures you are seeing here are of a concept version of the new Odyssey, which in short means that this is a good-looking, yet wholly impractical version of the new minivan.

In the article we stated that Honda was going to reveal a more practical/realistic version of the new (hybrid!) Odyssey at the Chicago Auto Show in mid-February, which will be (very) loosely based on what you see here, and will also be a better indication of the end product that you will see on the road in due time. We’ll keep you posted on the new Odyssey as soon as we find out more about it in a few weeks!

Why oh why can’t we go back to simpler cars with less weight and less electronics.
It is bad when cars are getting so hard to work on that even the dealer mechanics have trouble.
